Our
Experiences - A Brief History
We are all former patients of the Assisted Conception Units. If you have
any questions or need any information or just want to chat in confidence,
then please contact us.
JOANNE & ANDREW - Had blocked fallopian tubes due to PID. Had 2 unsuccessful
IVF cycles but 4 embryos frozen from 2nd attempt. Had tubes removed on
the advice of our consultant. Frozen embryo transfer unsuccessful but
further full IVF cycle resulted in pregnancy and birth of healthy twin
girls (Jan 2000).
MICHELLE - Found to have PCOS and endometriosis at age 23. Clomid Citrate
induced ovulation but suffered an ectopic pregnancy and loss of fallopian
tube. First cycle of IVF miscarried at 9weeks. Second cycle failed. Third
cycle conceived twin girls delivered by c-section at 37 weeks due to
pre-eclampsia.
Had surgery to remove endo’ then further ovulation induction and
conceived and delivered a boy. Following re-current bouts of pain and
bowel problems had hysterectomy at age 30. Ovaries also removed so on
Metformin and HRT to help problems associated with PCOS.
FIONA - 2 failed cycles of IVF. 1st attempt the eggs fractured. 2nd attempt
the eggs were substandard. Husband has 100% antibodies on sperm. Have
had success following first IUI, our son was born in July 1998. We had
5 more attempts at IUI with no success. Following a further IVF with ICSI
our daughter was born in Feb 2003.
KAREN & IAN - We suffered a miscarriage at 10 weeks during a natural
cycle. Had difficulty conceiving again and were advised to undergo IVF,
mainly due to our ages. Had 2 attempts using ICSI, 2nd attempt successful.
Developed severe pre-eclampsia and kidney failure at 23 weeks. At 27
weeks
our daughter was born but she died at 6 days old. Due to kidney damage
and other factors, we are unable to undergo any further treatment.
AMANDA & DAVID - Have undergone 4 IVF with ICSI cycles, 3 at St James’s
and 1 abroad. Have PCOS. The last attempt resulted in 38 eggs being collected
and ovarian hyperstimulation and internal bleeding. However we successfully
delivered twins (boy & girl) despite the complications. The embryos
were implanted at blastocyst stage.
BRIDGET - Tried for a family for 7 years+. Laparoscopy. Waited for IVF
treatment on the NHS for over 3 years. Decided to have IVF privately
at
St James’s. One attempt unsuccessful due to poor quality of eggs.
Adopted a 5 month old baby girl in1998. Then adopted another baby girl
age 14 months in 2003.
LYNNE - We had the MESA & ICSI procedure & had 2 embryos put
back. This resulted in a twin pregnancy. We now have 2 wonderful daughters
(born
2000). We were fortunate that this was our first and only try at IVF.
One year later we decided to donate our frozen embryos to another couple.
